No district in Odisha has received deficient rainfall this Monsoon season, data of the India Meteorological Department revealed. Out of 30 districts, 5 of them have recorded excess rainfall while the remaining 25 districts in Odisha have received normal rainfall this season.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre of the IMD in Bhubaneswar, Odisha has recorded 1153.3 mm of seasonal rain till September 21 as against the normal of 1099.9 mm of rain. The state has received 5 percent excess rainfall this season, said the weather bureau.
The IMD data said 206 out of 703 districts of the country recorded Deficient Rainfall (-20% to -59%) or Large Deficient Rainfall (-60% to -99%).
Around 40 percent of districts have recorded normal rainfall this season and 27 percent deficient. The country’s monsoon rainfall is 7% more overall than what is normal.
However, considerable regions of UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Tripura and West Bengal have reported deficient rains, which is likely to affect the Kharif rice crop this season.
Meanwhile, IMD report said that the southwest monsoon system began retreating from parts of southwest Rajasthan and Kutch on Tuesday even as the ‘normal’ or average date of withdrawal from Rajasthan was September 17.

Since the monsoon withdrawal is a long process and extends till mid-October, this year, the national weather agency has predicted that September 30 might be the final day of monsoon rain over India, said a report in Hindu.
As per IMD, the withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon is based on the following conditions:
Anti-cyclonic circulation at 850 hPa level
No rainfall during the last 5 days and
Water vapour imagery indicates dry weather conditions over the region.
